Team Hadleigh is an Essex County Council led, Heritage Lottery Funded project which has been working with local schools and community groups to research and celebrate their heritage in the build up to the 2012 Olympic Mountain Bike Event, which takes place in Hadleigh this August.
Hadleigh is steeped in history, from the imposing remains of Hadleigh Castle to the legacy and impact of the Hadleigh Salvation Army Farm Colony through to ‘Cunning Murrell’ a local ‘magic man’ who lived in Hadleigh in the 18th Century!; it’s an area with a rich and fascinating past and boasts one of the largest county parks in Essex.
So far school children and members of the community have been recorded talking about Hadleigh and its heritage and their voices will now be used for a new mobile web App and audio guide which will take people around key heritage sites of the area. Their research has also informed the creation of several textiles which tell the history of Hadleigh and which are currently being produced by a new craft group at the Hadleigh Old Fire Station. These textiles will then be displayed in Hadleigh in time for the 2012 Olympic Mountain Bike Event.
Finally via a Videbooth, visitors to the event will be able to record their thoughts and experiences and send them via email as video postcards!
