Reading has been showcasing its heritage since the very first Heritage Open Days launched nationally back in 1994. Over the years we’ve seen our programme grow and grow; it seems that once venues and event organisers are on board they don’t want to leave us.
One of our real achievements has been to continue to develop and engage a younger audience. With the whole vintage scene being so on-trend at the moment, what better way to do this than to welcome Alexandra Vintage and ‘Here’s Heritage – An Outdoor Celebration of Nostalgia’*.
We are very excited about this new addition to our programme which will see the town centre’s Market Place transformed into a vintage inspired fete. Visitors to the event can enjoy performances from All Jazzed Up and The Bombshells and can even bring their antiques to be valued! There will be vintage hair styling demos, cosmetics and clothing, upcycled furniture and good old fashioned tea and cake!
These new and sometimes quirky events (like heritage crafts events led by community arts group jelly and hosted at Cath Kidston, John Lewis, Waterstones and Jacksons – our oldest department store) and with brands ranging from Malmaison to Reading FC opening their doors, we keep Reading’s offering young and fresh, whilst still acknowledging the more traditional elements.
