Day 69: London

It’s the penultimate day of the Torch Relay route and over the last 68 days we have followed the Torch from its starting point in Cornwall , in the West, through Wales and Scotland, across to Northern Ireland, then from Scotland down to the East and South of England. For the past few days we have followed the Torch as it winds its way through Greater London.

Days 66-68: London

The Torch Relay is getting ever closer to its final destination, the Olympic Stadium in Stratford, and we are following it right to the end, pointing out the best of the history, heritage, landscapes and sites that it passes by. We have travelled with the Olympic Flame around the UK, from the most southerly tip to the furthest north and it has finally arrive in London with just four more days to go.

It’s Day 62 of the Torch Relay route and over the next four days the Olympic Flame will travel across the South East before heading towards its final destination in London, the Olympic Stadium! We begin Day 62 in the thriving town of Deal in Kent. Deal, situated close to the White Cliffs of Dover and the English Channel, has a rich history.

With only 11 days until the Torch Relay reaches the Olympic stadium in Stratford, the Torch has travelled around the country, over sea, mountains and through cities and the countryside. We have striven to help you discover the best of the historic sites, beautiful gardens, stunning wilderness and engaging heritage. Today we have more of the British sights, sounds and smells for you explore. Starting off in Portsmouth, on the south coast of England, we will guide you around the South East, pointing out the finest heritage, sites, forests and museums for you to see.

Over the next few days, the Olympic Flame will continue through the South West and head across the Solent and the English Channel across to the Isle of Wight, Guernsey and Jersey. On Day 55, we start our journey in Salisbury and head west towards the Dorset town of Shaftesbury.

The London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay is more than halfway through and we are still following its exploits around the country, from north to south, east to west and into the South-East today to highlight all the best of the sights and sounds that the UK has to offer. Over the next few days, in the South-East and West, we have museums, gardens, ancient libraries, palaces and beautiful landscapes for you to discover and delight in as you follow the Torch on its journey.

It’s day 48 of the Torch Relay route and for the next few days we will be continuing our journey through the East of England. From Norwich, the Olympic Torch will head towards the coast and pass through Lowestoft, a town situated on the most easterly point of the United Kingdom.

The Torch Relay has been travelling around the UK for the last 44 days and we have been following it on its journey, picking the best places for you to discover and enjoy near its route. Today, we will accompany the Torch and its bearers run through the East Midlands across to the East of England, enjoying all the sights and sounds along the way.
